Understanding the Terms Bug Out Bag, Inch Bag and Go Bag

Every bug out situation is different. Some bug outs are temporary, while others may be permanent. Sometimes SHTF and it’s so chaotic that you may never be able to return home. So, temporary or long term is going to determine what type of bag you’ll need.

Different bags for different situations. A bug out bag or BOB, as it’s commonly referred to, is a bag meant to sustain your survival for at least 72 hours.

A BOB is not intended for more than that. This is the bag you grab when quickly exiting chaos to get to some place safe temporarily. It has all the basic essentials you’ll need to survive for three days. Food, water, extra clothes, basic tools, a way to start a fire, flashlight, communication device and shelter, or a way to provide shelter. Oh yea, also don’t forget personal hygiene.

A bug out bag is intended to help you survive a temporary situation while an inch bag’s purpose is survival in a SHTF event for a longer period of time. Inch stands for I’m Never Coming Home.

An inch bag should contain all the essentials needed for a week or more. At least enough to last until you’re able to resupply. It will also contain other important items when going back to your house is not an option.

Along with everything packed in your Bob, an INCH bag should have a water purification method, compass, radio and first aid kit. You also need fishing items, a good flashlight, ax, knife, guns and ammo. Don’t forget the paracord, solar charger, rechargeable batteries, maps, medications and some rain gear.

You’ll also want your important documents with you like your ID, passports and anything that pertains to reestablishing your life. Pack a folding shovel, duct tape, and a machete.

A go bag is also known as an evacuation kit. This is a bag that has some of items that you will have packed in your bug out bag. It’s a bag that you would use if you had to leave your home quickly in the event of an emergency.

This bag is not meant to be long term and should be packed with important documents concerning health and finances.

In this bag you will have clothes, prescription medications and hygiene items. The purpose of this bag is to get you to another location where you’ll be OK for a few days until you can return home. It will not have survival items you need in a SHTF situation

  1. The advantage of one-handed opening to an outdoors person is of course particularly useful in and around water – if your arm is entangled or you are holding someone’s head above water and cannot release to enable two-handed opening.

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s tough to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appearance. I must say you’ve done a excellent job with this. In addition, the blog loads super quick for me on Chrome. Superb Blog!

I just got done eating a platter of spaghetti before visiting your site. It sure makes the full feeling all that much better.
